BACKGROUND:
This is my yearly recurring limited edition wine edition (only 1200 bottles made this year). It’s an opportunity for me to experiment with a new variety each year and although the focus has been on whites, there are also reds in this series.

STYLE:
Since PETIT MANSENG is a very small berried and tightly clustered variety, it tends to make more powerful whites. So, rather than to try to go against its nature and make a lighter, zippy summer wine, I wanted to embrace that power and channel it into something almost a bit exuberant. I’m normally not a big fan of oaked whites, but here I wanted to go all out of my comfort zone by letting it age in almost all new American oak barrels. Rarely done on whites. I realize this is not for everyone, but to me there is a plush and luxurious feel in this wine. And the very opposite of an inconsequential summer white. I hope you enjoy its big personality.

VINEYARD:
Saureel vineyard in El Dorado County is a higher elevation, cooler site. This is from very young vines and in fact this was only the second year they produced fruit. A very rare grape in CA.
